BOILER Circulation Pump
Boiler Circulating pump is centrifugal pump designed to generate a forced circulation in a closed system. Boiler circulating pumps circulate water within the boiler to enhance boiler operation. They take suction from a header that is connected to several down comers from the bottom of the boiler drum and discharge through additional tube circuits. This means the water pumped is at boiler temperature and pressure. These Seal-less circulating pumps are also referred to as glandless circulating pumps. They are often vertical pumps driven by wet rotor motors. The Boiler Water Circulation Pump is typically used in forced circulation drum boilers (sub critical units: 500-600MW) to provide the necessary head (pressure) to overcome the frictional losses encountered in the boiler tubes. This allows the water to circulate through the boiler to be turned into steam and used to generate electrical power in the turbine-generator set. Thus, this becomes the heart of the boiler, so if this BCP trips, whole Unit has to take a shut down. BCP often called as BCWP / CC PUMP in Thermal Power Stations.
